The Dark Dispatch #1
Our September newsletter
Hello readers,
This month Nightmare Fuel opened for submissions to our latest digital collection, CAMPFYRE. We put the call out for original stories and fresh takes on urban legends or folklore, and wow - you did not disappoint!
The majority of the 32 submissions we received were a (spooky) joy to read, which made selecting stories for the collection really difficult. While I’d love to accept them all, I had to be really selective - mostly for boring reasons like budget constraints! All contributors have now been notified, so if you’re yet to see an email land in your inbox about your submission, please reach out.
I’m pleased to announce that CAMPFYRE will feature 11 spine-chilling stories and poems from some fantastic Australian writers. Keep an eye on our website and socials over the next week or so for the release of our first stories from this collection.
Meanwhile, submissions for our first print anthology, FERAL are opening very, very soon…

Fresh & Dark
Each month we love to feature an upcoming Aussie dark fiction or poetry release in our newsletter. If you have a book coming out that you’d like to promote here, send an email to editor@nightmarefuelmagazine.com and tell us all about it!
HOME BREWED VAMPIRE BULLETS: THE NOVEL by Garth Jones is a mongrel punk road odyssey that takes place in a parallel Australia.
An all-girl band from the future and an undead pub rocker are dragged into an interdimensional war when they discover their headlining gig is more than it seems. We all need to get a good laugh out of the Apocalypse, right? Let’s go!
Collecting the trilogy of novellas (4.94 stars on GoodReads), Home Brewed Vampire Bullets: The Novel will feature a unique QR-code driven soundtrack by that prince of the patch cable, Seattle-based wizard Half Majesty. The score will also be available to stream on all the major blood suckers.
“If Hunter S Thompson was dragged screaming from the corpse-pouch of marsupial roadkill, he’d write like this” - J. Ashley-Smith (Shirley Jackson Award-winning author of Ariadne, I Love You and The Attic Tragedy)
HOME BREWED VAMPIRE BULLETS: THE NOVEL is available September 29.
